The eighth season of American Idol premiered last night, to considerably less fanfare than usual.

The ratings juggernaut had been using the audition episodes to showcase the crazies, the wannabes, and the straight-up deluded folks who wait for hours in the rain for their chance at glory, but after the suicide of Paula Goodspeed, an Abdul-obsessed fameseeker whose own horrendous audition appeared on AI a few years back, the show is refocusing its attention on those with actual talent.

Back with a new judge, songwriter Kara DioGuardi, Idol started last night in Phoenix.  As usual, there were a few great performances that earned their way to Hollywood, and there were a few boneheads who had to have their expectations adjusted.

However!  The best moment of the show - by far - was the moment when Ryan Seacrest tried to give a high-five to a contestant.  A BLIND contestant.  Watch the hilarity below.
