Call it youthful ennui, or liberal complacence, but "The Great Schlep" turned out to be pretty much a non-event.
Sarah Silverman's viral video got 7 million hits by encouraging young Jews to travel to Florida and convince their grandparents to vote for Obama. Unfortunately, only 100 people were actually up to the challenge, as reported by the New York Times.
Even Silverman herself didn't make the trip, and doesn't actually have any grandparents in Florida.
Hopefully, the few schleppers that did turn out managed to convert a few bubbes and zaides that Obama's not really a scary black man. One of the co-creators of the video reported that they may have convinced perhaps a couple of dozen grandparents, at the most.
On the plus side, though, the Times reports that “a large percentage of nipple-ring people are in Obama’s camp.” So that's good.
