Grumpy old man

We don't imagine that Letterman will let him off easy.

Since McCain snubbed the Late Show on September 24th, ostensibly to return to Washington and broker economic peace, (side note: when can we expect that peace?) Dave has been taking every opportunity to denounce the Republican presidential candidate as a liar and a blowhard whose campaign is in the crapper.

But apparently the road to the White House does run through Dave's studio, and it has been announced that McCain will return to the Late Show this Thursday, October 16th.  They've pinky-sweared that it will really happen this time, but of course, all guests are "subject to cancellation."   If he shows up, McCain will be appearing on the show the day after the final presidential debate, which is scheduled to take place Wednesday night at Hofstra University.

However, if Israel attacks Iran or Bristol Palin suddenly goes into labor, surely McCain will need to put country first, rolling up his sleeves to deliver a bipartisan solution to the crisis, and thereby angering Dave again, and ensuring quality TV for three more weeks.
