The City of Norfolk offers some of the best value for money art classes in Hampton Roads. This year’s winter session will begin January 11 and continue through March 2010.  They begin accepting new registrations on Monday, December 7, 2009. When registering please remember to bring a check or money order payable to Norfolk City Treasurer and valid driver’s license or Military I.D.

The art instructors at the Titustown Visual Arts center on Diven Rd are passionate about teaching art to children and go out of their way to accommodate homeschoolers.   They run classes during school hours specifically for homeschoolers at prices that don't break the bank.

Doodle Dandy Ages 2-3 with adult age 18 or older. Doodles LOVE this multimedia, process-oriented, Montessori approach to art. Dandies will paint on canvas, listen to classical music, play with squishy clay and much more! Make a mess... we have aprons! Enrollment: Min. 3; Max. 8. Instructed by Leigh Babcock. Location: Titustown Visual Arts.  $30 for Norfolk Residents, $40 for non-residsents.  Classes held on Fridays from 2/12-2/26 from 10 - 11 am.

Giggly, Wiggly Family Plaster-Casting All ages Family activity! Freeze this family moment. Hold hands and hold still for just a few short moments, and presto --- you will have a gorgeous plaster cast of your embraced arms and hands ready to display. Each casting session will last approximately one hour, start-to-finish. Bring the entire family! Location: Titustown Visual ArtsActivity.  $75 for Norfolk Residents and $85 for non-residents.  Classes held from 1/12- 3/22, no appointments necessary: No appointments accepted on Jan 18 or Feb 15.

Itsy Bitsy: Family Painting Ages 2-4 with adult age 18 or older. Painting is a mesmerizing activity for toddlers as they explore the canvas with swoop- ing brushstrokes. Bring canvases to each class for two, we will provide paint, brushes and inspiration for boundless family fun. Enrollment: Min. 4; Max. 8. Instructed by Shara Wertz. Location: Titustown Visual ArtsActivity  $25 for Norfolk residents and $35 for non-residents.  Classes held weekly on Tuesdays from 2/23 - 3/09 at 10:30-11:30 am.

Itsy Bitsy: Mud Puddles Ages 2-4 with adult age 18 or older. Dive into this wonderful class devoted to the exploration of clay! Children will learn to coil, mold and model clay to create lasting projects and memories. Course meets three times. Enrollment: Min. 4; Max. 8. Instructed by Shara Wertz.Location: Titustown Visual Arts Activity.  $25 for Norfolk residents and $35 for non-residents.  Classes held weekly on Tuesdays from  1/19-2/02  at 10:30a-11:30am.

Doozies! Ages 4-5 Come on and have a DOOZIE of a time! Experience the magical world of color,texture, pattern, contrast and shape. Get ready for Kindergarten by practicing fine motor skills while painting, creating mosaic art and working with clay. Enrollment: Min. 4; Max.8. Instructed by Leigh Babcock. Location: Titustown Visual Arts. $30 for Norfolk residents $30 and non-residents $40.  Classes held weekly on Fridays from  3/05-3/19 at 10:00-11:00am.

Hands-On Clay Works Ages 4-7 Children have a natural love of clay! It is soft and can be molded and twisted into nearly any form imaginable! Get those hands ready to dig in and pinch, coil, sculpt and glaze basic ceramic forms! Enrollment: Min. 4; Max. 8. Instructed by Shara Wertz. Location: Titustown Visual Arts. $25 for Norfolk residents and $35 for non-residents.  Held weekly on Tuesdays from  1/19-2/02, 4:00-5:00pm.

Around the World Ages 4-7 Journey around the art world and discover wonderful art forms and traditions. Bask in the beauty of Italian frescos, create a Greek mosaic and trace the history of ancient cave painting from France. Enrollment: Min. 4; Max. 8. Instructed by Shara Wertz. Location: Titustown Visual Arts.  $25 for Norfolk residents and $35 for non-residents.  Held weekly on Thursdays from 3/04-3/18 4:00-5:00pm. 

Cartooning Ages 8-17 Learn perspective and proportion in a simple format. Utilize circles, squares and rectangles to construct forms and figures. Please bring a 13” x 17” sketchbook, #2 pencils and a kneaded eraser to each class. Enrollment: Min. 5, Max. 8. Instructed by Bernard Conda. Location: Titustown Visual Arts. $35 for Norfolk residents and $45 for non-residents. Classes held weekly onTuesdays from 1/12-3/16 4:30-5:30pm.

Homeschool Classes
Super Heroes Ages 7-12 Unravel the mystery and learn to draw your favorite superheroes whether they are your friendly neighborhood variety hiding behind a mask or simply too big and too green not to be noticed. Please bring a 12” x 16” sketchbook. Enrollment: Min. 5, Max. 8. Instructed by Bernard Conda. Available at two locations.  Titustown Visual Arts on Fridays 1/29-3/19 1:00-2:00pm and at Fairlawn Recreation on Thursdays from 1/28-3/18 6:00-7:00pm.  $50 for Norfolk residents and $60 for non-residents.

Drawn to Sculpt Ages 8-17 Discover the proportions of the face as you learn to draw portraits from various points of view. Leap from two-dimensional to three- dimensional works using your drawing experiences to create clay sculptures of the human face. Enrollment: Min. 4, Max. 8. Instructed by Bernard Conda. Location: Titustown Visual ArtsActivity.  $50 for Norfolk residents and $60 for non-residents.  Classes held weekly on Wednesdays from 1/27-3/17 4:30-5:30pm. 

Watercolors Ages 8-17 A simple brush stoke can create the feeling of an expansive cloudless sky, or a dark and stormy sea. Bring along watercolor paper, paints and brushes and get ready to explore the magical world of watercolor painting. Enrollment: Min. 3; Max. 6. Instructed by Shara Wertz. Location: Titustown Visual Arts.  $45 for Norfolk residents and $55 for non-residents.  Classes held weekly on Wednesdays from 1/20-3/10 4:15-6:15pm.

Love digital photography and computers? Interested in art & design? Discover Adobe Photo-shop, a popular software program that turns your image into something unique! Transform your images, using a variety of your digital pictures, wild filters, attention-grabbing backgrounds & new ways to use type. Enrollment: Min. 4; Max. 8. Instructed by Leigh Babcock. Location: Titustown Visual Arts. $75 for Norfolk residents and $85 for non-residents.  Classes held on Tuesdays from 1/12-2/09 4:00-5:00pm. 

Black & White Photography Ages 13-17 Black and white photography will always be a classic art form. There is nothing more amazing than seeing your photograph come to life in the darkroom. Darkroom studio time is included during class. Safety maintenance is emphasized. A 35mm camera is provided for classroom use. Students must purchase their own supplies. Enrollment: Min. 1; Max. 3. Instructed by Lenore Teevan. Location: Titustown Visual Arts.  $125 for Norfolk residents and $135 for non-residents.  Classes held on Saturdays from 1/30-3/20 11:00am-1:30pm. 

Pottery: on the Wheel Ages 8-17 New students will learn about clay forms, tools, glazes and studio safety. Returning students will learn to alter forms and explore new types of decoration. Aztec Adventures Ages 4-7 Explore the ancient world and daily lives of the anceint Aztecs. Create a Sun Stone sculpture, draw, paint and be the author of an ancient Aztec Codex.
