Relationships come with their own set of challenges. Throw a life lived in somewhat of a public eye, and a whole new set of relationship challenges enters in to the picture. Robyn Knight, dj for Kansas City's Hot 103.3 Jamz, understands what it means to balance relationships and celebrity. If getting to know someone weren't experience enough, imagine getting acquainted with a woman you feel you already know. As an on air personality, relationships may have a distinct ranking on the romance charts.
So I have to ask, when the music stops, are you being honest with what you are looking for?
Robyn Knight could easily be described as a renaissance woman. As a dj for Hot 103, Communication Arts Instructor and founder of Knight Time Productions, her plate is definitely full. But in the midst of her many frontiers, Knight still maintains a positive outlook on love.
Like many twenty something women, Knight is interested in men that have a solid head on their shoulders and a positive outlook on life. " A romantic and sexy family man that is goal oriented" is how she describes the ideal man.
But how easy is it to distinguish between the men who have found the right woman , and the right persona? I sat with Knight to find out exactly how her role as a Kansas City celebrity influenced her outlook on the Kansas City dating scene.
If there is one thing Knight believes men have to have, regardless of how they meet, it's confidence.
"I think some people might be intimidated because I'm in the public eye and won't approach me," Knight says, " but I encourage men to step it up. Don't be afraid of a woman that has her stuff together ."
Knight describes herself as the type of woman that is all about building up a man, not tearing him down. Sure, she has an advantage when it comes to being able to meet, greet and mingle but at the end of the day the on air personality stays on air. Knight hopes that a man interested in her is truly interested in her as a person, and not just the voice that they hear on the radio.
" Just remember that you are dating the real person, not the personality/" Knight suggests.
Whether you are seeking the attention of a radio personality like Knight, or the reserved girl next door without the first hint of publicity, the real key is honesty. If you go in to a relationship with the intention of ending up with someone that can get you backstage of your favorite concert, or provide you with an excuse to name drop, you aren't truly on a path toward a lasting union. Approaching relationships in this manner will get you about as far as a whack demo...nowhere.
I ended my time with Knight by asking her what message she would give to single men if she had 60 seconds of uninterrupted air time.
"Be honest with your intentions before , during and after a relationship. You just don't know how many problems can be solved with honesty. Trust me," says Knight.
If honesty proves to be too much of a hassle for the onset of a new relationship, chances are you won't be picking up on any good signals.
