Maybe your child asks, "Why is wrong for A-rod to use drugs?"  Maybe you found out that kids on your child's sports team are already using them. Maybe you're at the gym and someone offers you a short-cut to the body you're trying to achieve. What do you say?
The reason to say no is that it's cheating. If you're competing, you cheat the other guy. In all cases, you cheat yourself.
Here are some performance-enhancing drugs and the reason athletes take them:
*        Anabolic steroids to build body mass and body strength
*        EPO and blood doping to deliver more oxygen to exercising muscles
*        Narcotics and local anesthetics to mask pain
*        Diuretics and stimulants to reduce weight
*        Alcohol, beta blockers and marijuana to relax
*        Diuretics and others to hide the use of other drugs

Each type of drug comes with its own risks. Here are some bad things that happen to people who take anabolic steroids:
*        Mood swings and depression
*        "Roid rage" or aggression
*        Impaired sexual function
*        Baldness
*        Liver damage
*        Infertility
*        Breast development in men
*        Facial hair growth in women

Achievements are always sweeter when achieved through honest effort.
