Would you like to reduce the cost of caring for elderly parents? The good news is that there are many ways for family caregivers and their parents to reduce or eliminate spending without sacrificing quality of life. The bad news is if you want to find a program or know if you qualify, get ready for a treasure hunt.

Bill Gillis, founder and CEO of Parent Care has identified sources of steep discounts, cash rebates, free products and even 100% reimbursement of expenses incurred assisting parents. Some cost-savings programs include:
  • Cash rebates for everyday items used by the elderly
  • Free goods and services like senior-friendly phones
  • Free or deeply discounted hearing aids upon request.
  • Seniors exemptions and freezes on real estate taxes with one offering a cash rebate of taxes paid over the past three years in most states.
  • 100% reimbursement of all outlays made on behalf of elderly parents in selected counties.
Many programs are administered on a state or even county level. To know if you can take advantage of a program you need to know what's happening in your parents' state and county.

While the need to care for aging parents is a growing national concern, most programs are still offered and administered on a local level. There is no centralized or nationalized source of critical information that family caregivers need to support their efforts to care for loved ones.

Mr. Gillis, from his national headquarters in the SF Bay Area, offers that people living in King County have access to King County Care Partners program. They save clients money by reducing hospital admissions/bills while also potentially saving lives. This service is especially meaningful to long distance caregivers who would otherwise need to miss work or fly home during these troubling economic times.

Gillis understands the frustration of tracking down local resources from his own personal experience. When he was heading the development of Schwab on-line trading services, his became a family caregiver for relatives a plane-ride away. He was struck by the irony that he was developing a nationalized system that would empower consumers to take charge of their financial choices, yet he spent hours on the phone trying to identify local services in his family's community.

To help others in his situation he founded his company Parent Care. This subscriber-based information service offers detailed reports on each county in the US. You can get a ten to twelve page report that tells you the insider secrets that will help you navigate in your parents' care in their local community.

Keep your eyes open. New ways to save time and money are out there.
