No more Block for Joc.
Which means that MC Yung Joc, who gave us "It's Going Down", a summer dance craze a couple years back, is no longer with his label, Block Entertainment.
To boot, Diddy has released him from his obligations to Bad Boy Records.
Here's Joc, saying to Ballerstatus.com that there's no hard feelings:
"I just got my release and one of the terms of the release was a defamation clause, so honestly, I can't really talk about it too much. I've been released, severed the business ties. May God bless them and their regime, but I'm doing my own thing now. I'm actually in negotiations right now with a few labels. I just choose not to call out the different entities. Things are looking very good, God is very good. When I was going through this whole thing with the Bad Boy/Block situation, I didn't know what the other side was going to be. I didn't know if there was going to be light on the other end. I was hopeful, but it's actually working out for the best. I ain't mad, nobody's mad right now, everything is good."
Joc has a label of his own, Swagg Team Entertainment.
He recently spoke up about not being paid fairly for his hard work:
"I haven't been paid any royalties since I've been out, after over a million albums sold. For my first album, they gave me a $25,000 advance when I was supposed to get more...Then I had a million dollar budget for my second album, never even got an advance off of it. For the third one they hit me with another $25,000, like I'm some chump in this sh*t. And I just got tired of it...Diddy said he's got to stay out of it because it's between me and Block Entertainment. I was never signed to Block Entertainment, but they've been interfering with a lot of my business. I feel like [Bad Boy] isn't doing anything to try to intervene and help the situation."
The Atlanta-based Block has been sued by two producers, Dee Jay Dana and Flawda Water, who worked with Joc and another Block artist, Gorilla Zoe of Boyz N Da Hood, according to allhiphop.com.
The Block label was founded by Russell “Block” Spencer in 2005.
Bad Boy was started in 1993 by Diddy as a management firm. The label was distributed first by Arista Records, then in 2003 by Universal Records, and finally began a relationship with Atlantic Records, which has gone on since 2005. Bad Boy launched the caressrs of The Notorious BIG, Ma$e, Jadakiss, Styles P, Craig Mack, Cassie, Danity Kane, Day 26, Mario Winans, Carl Thomas, Faith Evans (BIG's widow), Janelle Monae (who was originally a Purple Ribbon Entertainment artist) and Sheek Louch. Dancehall superstar Elephant Man is the only legend signed to the label.
When business turns sour, it's time to take your business to sweeter pastures.
That. Made. No. Sense.
I was sleepy when I wrote this. Forgive me.
Nuff said.
