Turkey: The centerpiece of many a Thanksgiving table. Want to get yours locally, and know how it was raised? Check out one of these farms that will take orders and deliver at farmers markets in the D.C. area.

Eco-Friendly Foods: Delivering to Dupont Circle FRESHFARM Market the Sunday before Thanksgiving (November 22). Broad-breasted white turkeys, 12-15 pounds or Heritage birds, 8-12 pounds. Call 540.297.9582.

Haskins Family Farm: Delivering to Foggy Bottom FRESHFARM Market the Wednesday before Thanksgiving (November 25). Common white, free-range birds that are large (21-28 pounds). Also offering half-birds and whole turkey breast. Order and pay deposit at the Foggy Bottom market. Call 540.869.3795.

Garden Path Farm: Taking orders at the H Street, NE FRESHFARM Market and delivering to the market site the Tuesday before Thanksgiving (November 24). Birds are double-breasted, pasture-raised, small, 10-15 pounds. Can also order turkey breast. Call 717.423.0141.

Groff's Content Farm: Pick up turkeys at Silver Spring FRESHFARM Market the Saturday before Thanksgiving (November 21). Broad-breasted bronze and Heritage breeds available. Order by email via Julie Bolton at jtbolton1958@gmail.com or call 301.305.7898.

UPDATE: KOL Foods: Order kosher and humanely-raised turkeys supplied by Meadow Breeze Farm on the website by November 3. Orders will ship November 16.

Smith Meadows Farm: Sign up any of the markets where you find Smith Meadows products, including the Dupont Circle FRESHFARM Market, the Courthouse and Del Ray markets, and the Takoma Park Farmers Market (check their site for the full list) and pick up your turkey at the markets, too. Broad-breasted bronze, pasture-raised, 10-14 pounds.

Springfield Farm:
Pick up at the Harbor East FRESHFARM Market on November 14 or at Springfield Farm on November 21. Natural broad-breasted white (food and water inside) and pastured broad-breasted white (free range), 12-25 pounds. Truck Patch: Reserve your turkey at the U Street Farmers Market any Saturday, and pick up before the holiday.
