Top ten reasons why you should use organic virgin coconut oil:

1. Coconut oil tastes great! (cooking ideas + recipe)

2. Coconut oil is great for you immune system because it contains high levels of lauric acid which is a proven antimicrobial (i.e. antifungal, antiviral, antibacterial). Lauric acid is also found in mother’s milk.

3. Coconut oil decreases inflammation by simultaneously decreasing inflammatory and increasing anti-inflammatory signaling molecules (cytokines). Inflammation is a major component of most disease processes.

4. The medium chain fatty acids (MCFAs) found in coconut oil are used for energy more rapidly than any other fat source. This means that they are not usually stored as fat and can help jump start your metabolism.

5. Coconut oil’s MCFAs are also easy to digest. Therefore, coconut oil is great for individuals who have trouble digesting fats. For example, people with gallbladder problems or individuals who have had their gallbladder removed.

6. The saturated fats found in coconut oil are synergistic with omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids and help you to effectively retain and utilize these essential fatty acids.

7. Coconut oil supports the thyroid and can improve thyroid function in individuals with hypothyroid.

8. In countries such as Thailand and the Philippines, where coconut is an integral part of the diet, rates of heart disease and cancer are lower than in the United States. Researchers have even reported that coconut oil lowers cholesterol.

9. Coconut oil is extremely stable and a great choice for cooking. Coconut oil has a high smoke point which means you can heat it higher without creating free radicals that cause damage to your body.

10. Virgin coconut oil is a healthy traditional vegetable oil that has been used for thousands of years. It does not contain trans fats and is not highly processed with harsh chemicals like many vegetable oils found in stores today.

P.S. -- Coconut oil is also a fabulous moisturizer for your skin and hair!
