Milwaukee, Wis. (February 16, 2010) - An hour-long breathtaking trip through a soundscape created by Coldplay and Massive Attack collaborator Jon Hopkins, and award-winning composer Joby Talbot (“The Divine Comedy”), Wayne McGregor/Random Dance’s “Entity” is a staggering blend of bodies, lights, technology and film that marks McGregor at the cutting edge of contemporary culture. Technically astonishing, emotionally uncompromising and hard-hitting,
McGregor’s work breaks boundaries and defies categorization. “Entity” will be performed on Saturday, March 13, at 8 p.m. in the Alverno College Pitman Theater, 39th St. and Morgan Ave. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased online at alvernopresents.alverno.edu or by calling the Box Office at 414-382-6044. Box Office hours are 12 noon – 6 p.m. Monday thru Friday and until curtain on day of performance.
Wayne McGregor/Random Dance was founded in 1992 and became the instrument upon which McGregor evolved his drastically fast and articulate choreographic style. The company became a byword for its radical approach to new technology – incorporating animation, digital film, 3D architecture, electronic sound and virtual dancers into the live choreography.
In “Nemesis” (2002), dancers duelled with prosthetic steel arm extensions to a soundtrack incorporating mobile phone conversations; in “AtaXia” (2004), McGregor’s fellowship with the Experimental Psychology department of Cambridge University fuelled the choreography; and in “Amu” (2005), live heart surgery fed into the creative process.
McGregor is a multi award-winning British choreographer, renowned for his physically testing choreography and ground-breaking collaborations across dance, film, music, visual art, technology and science. He is the artistic director of Wayne McGregor/Random Dance, resident company at Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London, resident choreographer of The Royal Ballet (appointed 2006) and the government’s first Youth Dance Champion (appointed 2008).
McGregor is also a frequent creator of new work for La Scala, Milan, Paris Opera Ballet, Nederlands Dans Theatre, San Francisco Ballet, Stuttgart Ballet and English National Ballet, as well as movement director for theatre and film (including “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire”).
The performance of Wayne McGregor/Random Dance is supported, in part, by Northwestern Mutual Foundation, New England Foundation for the Arts National Dance Project, Wisconsin Arts Board, Pepsi America, Midwest Airlines and National Endowment for the Arts. Artist accommodations are graciously provided by Hotel Metro.

Synopsis for “La Danse: The Paris Opera Ballet” - The Paris Opera Ballet is one of the world’s great ballet companies and one of France’s principal cultural institutions. With a reputation to maintain and the desire to stay current in the modern dance world, the Paris Opera Ballet relies on the hard work and dedication of its entire staff.
Wiseman eloquently follows the rehearsals and performances of seven legendary ballets and artfully captures the collaborative effort of choreographers, ballet masters, dancers, musicians, and costume, set, and lighting designers as they prepare for a crowd of 300,000. The gorgeous cinematography of Wiseman’s long-time collaborator John Davey makes every aspect of the Paris Opera Ballet seem as important as the final dance itself.
Tickets for this screening of “La Danse” may be purchased for $10 at the Marcus Theatres North Shore Cinema Box Office, or online at marcustheatres.com
