I have never actually been to the National Aquarium in D.C. but have always wanted to go. It just one of those things on my list. Well, I received a press release from the Aquarium and it seems like a good place to check out during inauguration time. Not many people know about it and it would be a good place to escape the cold and crowds in D.C. General admission is only seven bucks. The release is below.

The National Aquarium in Washington, DC extends a warm, watery welcome to the anticipated millions traveling to the nation's capital to attend inaugural festivities for President-elect Barack Obama.  All in one location, the Aquarium offers a unique opportunity to uncover "America's Aquatic Treasures" from the reefs off of the Golden Gate Bridge to the majestic Mississippi River to the Florida Keys. Located just one block from the Washington Monument, the nation's oldest Aquarium is a must-see attraction that offers a 45-minute relaxing, family-friendly experience for an affordable price.

Serving visitors since 1931 from the Department of Commerce building, the newly refurbished National Aquarium in Washington, DC is home to over 250 species. The aquarium features shark, eel, gators and reptiles, including a new adorable "head start" baby loggerhead turtle. Special exhibits highlight the animals and habitats of the National Marine Sanctuaries Program and freshwater ecosystems of the United States, as well as conservation hot spots such as the Amazon.

"We welcome visitors from around the world visiting the nation's capital for this historic presidential inauguration," said National Aquarium Executive Director Bob Ramin.  "The National Aquarium in Washington, DC is a first-rate attraction whether you're a first time visitor or a returning local.  We are conveniently located near the National Mall and offer a fun, intimate experience at a reasonable price for families looking for a respite from the monument dash. We hope visitors will add it to their must-see list."

The National Aquarium was recently named the 2008 "Best Downtown Experience" by the Washington, DC Business Improvement District.  The award followed the aquarium's five-year renovation effort in conjunction with its new partnership with the National Aquarium in Baltimore and $1.5 million in grants from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
