The only mambo I've ever really been a fan of is Dean Martin's Mambo Italiano, but in the name of inaugural fun, I'm throwing a bone to the organizers of the Mambo For Obama Inaugural Ball. The Latin-themed ball is being held on Jan. 18 from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. at Zanzibar On The Waterfront. Zanzibar is located at 700 Water Street, SW, Washington, D.C. The attire is black tie optional and tickets start at $75 a pop. Those interested can e-mail christopher@latinvip.com.

Quite predictably, the ball is intended to celebrate the Latino contribution to Obama's victorious presidential campaign. The ball will have a red carpet where celebrities and politicians can stroll before choosing where to celebrate on the club's two floors. There will be plenty of food and beverages, along with music and dancing that highlight Latino culture. Furthermore there will be live performances from artists representing the distinct cultures of Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Argentina, Peru, Bolivia, Columbia and Brazil.
