It increasingly seems that the streets of Washington, D.C. will be crowded with tourists around inauguration time. And some of the inaugural balls are already sold out so people in search of a good time must start looking elsewhere. Well, where is one place where tourists won't block sidewalks and you can still enjoy an inaugural party? The Potomac River.
Entertainment Cruises is offering a number of different cruises aboard the Spirit of Washington and Odyssey III. There are four pre-inauguration cruises and one cruise on Jan. 20.
Before we proceed, in full disclosure I can't pretend to be objective when writing about these cruises. I have only gone on one of these cruises, and it was with all the Miss America contestants in 2004. Needless to say I had an incredible time, being the only press person there. Given my history with this cruise company, I will refrain from providing my opinion about the cruises. Below will just be factual information.
The first two of these cruises set sail on Jan. 16 at 8 p.m. and end at 11 p.m. The Spirit of Washington and Odyssey III will each host a cruise. The only black-tie cruise is the one on the 20th, but all of them will have patriotic decoration and music.
Following the first two cruises is another the next afternoon. The third cruise, this time on the Spirit of Washington, goes from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 17. The Spirit of Washington will host another cruise the same night, from 8-11 p.m.
The main ball, the Inaugural Ball Cruise, is on Jan. 20, from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Like I said earlier, this is the only black-tie ball. The Odyssey III is the vessel that will entertain guests on this historic night.
Tickets prices range from $68 - $101 depending on the cruise. For Odyssey cruise tickets please call (866) 306-2469. For Spirit of Washington tickets please call (866) 211-3811. For more information on all the balls, please visit www.entertainmentcruises.com.
All these cruises depart from the Entertainment Cruises dock at 600 Water Street S.W., Washington, D.C. 20024.
Those who enjoy photography will be able to get great and unique shots of the city aboard these ships.
