Whether you're taking a vacation to Washington, D.C. for the 4th of July or you're a local, here's a list of the biggest events going on around town this holiday weekend.

A Capital Fourth This is the concert featuring Aretha Franklin, Barry Manilow, the cast of Jersey Boys, Michael Feinstein and Natasha Bedingfield. It takes place on the National Mall on July 4th from 8 to 9:30 p.m. Here is a story I already wrote about the annual concert.

The big July 4 fireworks celebration, which is the highlight of the weekend in Washington, D.C., overlaps with the concert a bit. The fireworks will start at approximately 9:10 p.m. and end at 9:28 p.m. Patriotic songs will be played during the concert while fireworks burst up above.

The National Independence Day Parade starts at 11:45 a.m. at Constitution Avenue and Seventh Street. The parade goes straight down Constitution Avenue all the way to Seventeenth Street, pleasing the crowd with marching bands, floats, military and specialty units, giant balloons, and celebrities.

The Smithsonian Folklife Festival started on June 24 and will run until July 5. The annual summer celebration of different cultures is held on the National Mall from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with some evening events. The three themes for this year's festival are Giving Voice, Las Americas, and Wales. Click on the following for general information, a schedule of events, and a festival map.

The National Archives is taking advantage of the grand stairs at its Constitution Avenue by having a reading there of the Declaration of Independence on July 4 from 10-11 a.m. After the reading, Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson will be roaming around the museum's halls while tourists catch a glimpse of the documents that helped create America.

If you're in town for the nation's birthday why not see the national pastime? The Washington Nationals play host to the Atlanta Braves at 6:35 p.m. on July 3, 1:05 p.m. July 4, and 1:35 p.m. on July 5. There will be a fireworks celebration after the Friday night game and the first 20,000 fans will receive mini U.S. flags at the July 4th game. You can buy tickets by clicking here.
