Amtrak is throwing its Guest Rewards members a bone by offering opportunities to get extra rewards points all summer. A release from Amtrak is below that describes all the different ways to get the extra points.

Train travel is an even better option this summer for Amtrak Guest Rewards members who may earn even more points towards free travel and other rewards with Amtrak’s “POWER POINTS – ALL BONUS POINTS – ALL SUMMER LONG – ALL TRAINS” point promotion.

Now through August 31, 2009, Amtrak Guest Rewards members will earn “POWER TRIP” bonus points – 100 bonus points for coach class, 200 points for business class and 400 points for first class travel -- for every qualifying trip they take on any Amtrak route anywhere in the country.  Bonus points are available in addition to normal points earned.

To take advantage of the “POWER POINTS” promotion, passengers must be members of Amtrak Guest Rewards and must first register to participate.  Members may register online at Amtrakguestrewards.com using registration code 60109 or by calling 1-800-307-5000, selecting option 2 and entering the registration code.

Amtrak Guest Rewards members may earn bonus points on up to two qualifying trips per day – one roundtrip or two one-way trips.  Travel on every Amtrak route is eligible.  Acela Express travel must be at least $75 per qualifying one-way or $150 per qualifying roundtrip.  Northeast Regional travel must be at least $35 per qualifying one-way or $70 per roundtrip.

Through the “POWER POINTS” promotion, Amtrak Guest Rewards members may also earn bonus points with qualifying purchases made through program partners on top of any applicable bonuses offered by the partners.

·        “POWER STEERING” – 100 bonus points per transaction

o       Car rental, car sharing and chauffeured services from Budget, Hertz, Zipcar and Dav El

·        “POWER NAP” - 200 bonus points per stay

o       Hotel partners Choice Hotels®, Hilton HHonors®, Hyatt®, Omni Hotels®, Starwood Hotels & Resorts and Wyndham Rewards® hotels

·        “POWER SHOP” – 100 bonus points for retail and entertainment transactions

o       Including 1-800-FLOWERS.COM®, Audience Rewards, Beverage Bistro, Buy Points, Cruise Locators, Energy PlusTM, Points for Moving, Points for Shopping, Shop.Samsonite.com, Teleflora®, TD AMERITRADE, and Vinesse Wine Clubs.

To receive bonus points for travel, members should include their Amtrak Guest Rewards membership number when making a reservation to ensure they receive credit for all qualifying travel.  Cancelled or refunded reservations and/or tickets are not eligible to receive bonus points.  Other restrictions apply.  For more information or to enroll as an Amtrak Guest Rewards member today, log onto Amtrakguestrewards.com.

Amtrak Guest Rewards members may also earn points and save money on travel with Amtrak’s new, lower fares in the Northeast.  Now through September 3, 2009, Amtrak is offering 25 percent off the lowest published coach fare on Northeast Regional service between Washington, DC, New York, and Boston.  Sample one-way fares include $49 between either Washington, DC and New York or New York and Boston.

Additionally, Amtrak has extended the lower fares introduced on Acela Express last February.  With our popular new fares, travel on Amtrak’s premier service is now as low as $99 between Washington, DC and New York and $79 between New York and Boston.  Reservations are required and must be made 14 days prior to travel.  Upgrades to First Class are not available.  Other restrictions apply.

Amtrak reservations may be made online at Amtrak.com or by calling 1-800-USA-RAIL.
