The legendary Curly Neal took some time out of his busy schedule for a phone interview earlier this week. You may not recognize Neal by his name, but surely you have seen clips of him as a member of the Globetrotters starting some 40 odd years ago.
Neal, who is nearly 68 and has had his number 22 retired by the Globetrotters, no longer dazzles the crowd with his deft dribbling moves. He told me that instead he spends some of his time working with the NBA Stay in School Program and serving as a goodwill ambassador for the game of basketball.
Despite all of this, Neal has never been able to leave the Globetrotter world. He said the current roster is a bunch of great guys and that he thoroughly enjoys his time with them. Neal's knee dosn't allow him to join in on the fun even if he wanted to. But, he is more than willing to sign an autograph or two. I do not usually care about famous people but I actually think it would be very cool to meet Neal.
I'm off to the Verizon Center game so if you are going as well let me know what you think.
