Who says you have to be American to celebrate Barack Obama's inauguration? The embassies of Ethiopia and Ghana have joined up to host the Foreign Diplomats Inaugural Ball. The evening of foreigner fun will be held on Jan. 18 from 5:30-11 p.m. at the James Monroe Mansion, located at 2017 I St., NW, Washington, D.C. Obama and Biden have been invited to the event so who knows if they'll make a surprise appearance.

Tickets will be made available to the general public on Jan. 3,  at 5:01 p.m. This is done so that embassy staffs and other diplomatic dignitaries will be able to secure their place at the ball. General admission tickets are $350 and its $500 for each VIP pass. The VIP tickets gives the bearer access to exclusive areas, photo opportunities with celebrity and political guests and honorees, and a gift bag. Tickets can be purchased by going to the ball's Facebook page or by clicking on a link on the Ethiopian Embassy's web site. I have yet to find a link there to buy tickets, but there is still some time for it to show up.

According to the event's organizer, "a generous portion of the proceeds will benefit nonprofit organizations that promote democracy and freedom in Ghana and Ethiopia." I am a fan of Ethiopian food and expect the fare at this ball to be top-notch. Served at the event will be traditional dishes from Ethiopia, Ghana and other African countries.
