If I do in fact find the time to visit the 2009 Florida Inaugural Celebration, I may have to apologize to Congressman Ron Klein. He lost two voters when my grandparents moved up to Rockville a little more than a year ago. Klein won reelection in November so I guess he did alright.
Those who want to celebrate Obama with people from the Sunshine State, or apologize to another politician can do so because members of the Florida congressional delegation are serving as the evening's honorees. The party is being held at the National Museum of the American Indian on Jan. 20 from 7 p.m. to midnight. Tickets cost $200 and can be purchased by calling 703-905-9838 or e-mailing fl_inaugural@hayespr.com.
There will be plenty of food and drink for all guests, but those who sponsor at the platinum and gold levels can get access to a VIP entertaining room overlooking the U.S. Capitol. Those who buy tickets will have to enter the museum, situated on the Mall, from its Maryland Avenue entrance. Many of the official balls are going on at the same time near the American Indian Museum, so security will be tight all around and some traffic problems are to be expected. Net proceeds from the ball will go towards supporting all the Red Cross chapters throughout Florida.
