Michael Arike's “A View of the Castle and the Capitol”

Smithsonian Associates is offering up a little bit of everything for everyone this time of year. Aside from its expansive list of speakers and events, it is giving families a chance to learn about everyone's holiday celebrations.

On Dec. 22 and 23, at 10:15 a.m. and again at 11:30 a.m., Smithsonian Associates, along with the Discovery Theater, are promoting 'Seasons of Light.' The performance celebrates a myriad of holiday celebrations, including  Ramadan, Devali, Chanukah, Sankta Lucia, Kwanzaa, Las Posadas/Christmas and a First Nations tradition of Winter Solstice. Those who go to the show may be called upon to become part of the show. It is open to all but geared toward children in the 5-10 age group. For tickets call 202-633-8700 or go to www.discoverytheater.org. Tickets are going fast to purchase them here if you want them.

For those looking to spruce up their walls or buy a gift for loved ones, there is the Smithsonian Association Art Collectors Program. Click on the preceding link will take you to the site where you can buy a number of famous posters or limited-edition prints of specially commissioned work. The photo in this post is on Michael Arike's take on the Smithsonian Castle. It can be had at $220 for Associates members, and $320 for nonmembers. Each one of Arike's prints are numbered and as part of a limited edition run of 50.
