Those looking for something different and safe to do with their kids this weekend are in luck. The National Air and Space Museum will be hosting its annual spookfest, “Air & Scare,” from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center. Those who are brave enough can visit the museum along with space aliens, astronauts and ghostly pilots for an educational and safe trick-or-treating atmosphere.
Kids who get their fill of sweets can also enjoy story times, face-painting stations and other fun activities. For both parents and children, there will be free screenings of an episode of “The Jetsons” in the Imax Theater, along with free simulator rides and Halloween arts and crafts. Ghouls and their little goblins can also pose for pictures with “Star Wars” characters (I hope someone is dressed as Chewy). Perhaps the highlight of the evening, there will be a screen of “Dark Knight” in the Imax Theater once Air and Scare is over.
Admission will be free, as always, but parking will cost $10. The event is supported by the Mars company (who better to sponsor an event at Air and Space?) so it is reasonable to expect M&M’s to be passed out like, well, candy.
