Global Family Yoga is offering the Games, Games, Games workshop on July 30th, 2009 in Chicago! Educators know that children tend to learn best through fun activities in environments. Games, Games, Games aims to enhances adults' ability to teach children the elements of yoga through multi-sensory, engaging activities.
Recent studies have demonstrated the range of benefits children experience while practicing yoga. However, many parents and teachers don't know how to begin sharing yoga with their children. Global Family Yoga recognizes that children would easily bore from sitting in contemplation and moving through Sanskrit-named postures. Just as one can utilize yoga tools, such as poses, breath techniques, mantras, or visulaizations for any purpose, whether it be emotional, physical, spiritual, or mental, one can create a yoga-related game to teach any lesson. Games, Games, Games familiarizes adults with games for any energy level, mood, or lesson the instructor would like to facilitate. Participants learn how to incorporate quiet and high-energy games, slow and fast games, and games for younger and older kids into any educational setting.
The physical activity of yoga enhances children's flexibility, balance, strength, coordination, and body-awareness. However, if taught correctly, yoga will also enrich children's sense of compassion, skill of cooperation, and awareness of self. Global Family Yoga suggests that any game, traditional or creative, becomes a yoga game when the players focus on cooperation rather than competition. "Everybody wins in yoga games. Children quickly respond to this cooperative orientation and thrive... Give the children in your life the gift of always being 'in' and always winning!" Ultimately, participants of the workshop will learn techniques that allow children to carry yoga into their playful, everydays lives.
