“ShareYourStory gives me strength, it gives me the power to get up and get dressed. It gives me permission to cry when I want and not feel alone because I know you all are only a few key strokes away.”
This quote from the mother of a premature infant illustrates the potential power of nonprofit social media.
It’s from the March of Dimes ShareYourStory program, an online community inviting parents of premature infants to “participate in online discussions, start a blog or just make friends.”
And what a community. Anyone can start their own blog, post a question that others can weigh in on, make plans to meet other preemie parents in their town, or just find support.
In fact, the entire ShareYourStory site resonates with support. Discussions range from how to treat serious diaper rash to how to handle postpartum depression in the newborn ICU to “need advice on how to be brave.”
Parents come back years after their child goes home to blog about their high school graduation and other milestones. What would you do for that kind of loyalty?
Along their journey, these parents learn about the March of Dimes’ mission and make a deep, personal connection to the organization.
Take a look and consider how your organization might emulate ShareYourStory.
