MTSP investigation and training seminar at Hilltop House in Harpers Ferry
October 2008 marks the one year anniversary of Maryland TriState Paranormal (MTSP). It’s been an amazingly busy and successful year for an outstanding group of paranormal investigators. Founded by Ana Bruder and Sharon Ramirez, this Maryland-based organization is dedicated to educating and aiding the community concerning paranormal phenomena. The 30 member team uses many methods, both conventional and unconventional, to achieve their goals. Members include active duty U.S. Army & Navy personnel, NASA employees, college students, sales and customer service managers, real estate professionals and medical personnel from various religions and walks of life who have experienced paranormal phenomena at some point in time. MTSP draws its membership from not only Maryland, but also from Virginia, West Virginia, New Jersey, Delaware, the District of Columbia, and Pennsylvania. Ana, a Veterinary Technician, and Sharon, a retail professional, decided to start their own organization when they realized that they wanted a way to test their own theories that didn’t fit neatly into those espoused by existing groups. Jaime, another key member of MTSP, is a US Navy veteran, a child care professional, and a former professional ghost tour guide.

Founders Ramirez & Bruder theorize that, since modern physics contemplates the possibility that along with the three dimensions of space and the fourth of time, there may be up to seven or more dimensions in the universe, those dimensions can even exist on an unimaginably small scale.  Ramirez states, "It's a fact that some of the stars we see from the earth are stars that were extinguished millions of years ago.  So, if we are able to have a glimpse of the stars and galaxies of the past, they why would it be so improbable to smell, hear, see, or even photograph a ghostly figure from the past?"

During the course of investigations, Maryland TriState Paranormal operates an array of scientific equipment including various types of electromagnetic field detectors, temperature probes, digital cameras, infrared camcorders, and various types of audio recorders for the purpose of obtaining electronic voice phenomena. They are constantly researching techniques and types of equipment.  One of their more unconventional methods is enlisting the aid of group sensitives and also dowsing for any possible signs of spirit communication. Dowsing can pinpoint higher than usual energy fields, which could indicate the presence of paranormal activity.

Investigations are conducted in both private residences and business establishments, as well as historical sites.  In doing so, MTSP also networks with other paranormal groups and associations to ensure that they’re up to date on the latest paranormal phenomena information. Similar to R.I.P., MTSP does not believe it is necessary to investigate only with “lights out” conditions; they recognize that ghosts can appear anywhere, at any time, including in broad daylight.

MTSP offers training to its members and encourages all paranormal investigators to keep an open mind and constantly educate themselves in this field.  As they celebrate their one year anniversary, the members of MTSP are looking forward to even more exciting activities throughout 2009 and for many years to come.

In addition to their extremely successful Annapolis Walking Ghost Tour, held this year on October 4th, MTSP has conducted investigations at the following locations:

  • Antietam National Battlefield - Sharpsburg, MD
  • Bertha's Restaurant Of Fell's Point - Baltimore, MD
