Homeschoolers enjoy getting out and doing things. This Fourth of July why not take everyone to one of the many public fireworks displays in the Little Rock area. Tie the display into a lesson on combustion, propulsion and rockets. Doing so will give a whole new perspective to the powerful displays we see on the Fourth.

Originally aired in January 2002, Fireworks! Explains everything anyone could want to know about fireworks. Explore the teachers guide that offers a plethora of information about the show. Although the actual TV show is not available online, it can be ordered here. Topics include name that shell, a series of video clips of the most popular types of fireworks. Anatomy of a firework explains exactly how fireworks are made. An interview with Dr. John Conkling, past executive director of the American Pyrotechnics Association details his views on fireworks. On fire wraps up the websites information with animation and discussions about combustion.

July 3, 2009:
Brodie Creek has a Sparkler Extravaganza at the Brodie Creek Pavilion. Fireworks start at 8pm. In Calico Rock the fireworks display is at King City Park. DeValls Bluff has the Delta Tank Firework Show which starts at 9pm.
Greers Ferry Lake starts the fireworks display at 9:30pm and in Hot Springs fireworks begin after dark at Power Boats located at the Highway 7 causeway.
July 4, 2009:
Benton’s Tindall Park has fireworks. In Bismark, DeGray Lake Resort State Park has a public display. Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Cabot is holding a celebration from 7:30 to 9pm. Fireworks start at 9. In Camden the Chamber of Commerce will host the fireworks display. Eldorado will start their display at the Union City Fairgrounds. Fayetteville will have a red, white, and boom celebration at Baum Stadium. Hot Springs Village’s Mountain Harbor Resort on Lake Ouachita offers a fireworks display. Pops on the River at the Riverfront Amphitheater in Little Rock has music and fireworks. Maumelle has a celebration and fireworks at Lake Willastein. In Monticello fireworks begin at 9pm. Pine Bluff’s JC Regional Park has fireworks starting at 9pm. Searcy has fireworks near First Security Stadium at 9pm and Sherwood Forrest in Sherwood display starts at 9pm.
