I have a Wondrous Vulva in my office. It was a gift from one of the coolest women I know.

“O.K.”, you’re thinking. “I’ll bite, what is a Wondrous Vulva?

It is an anatomically correct puppet of the vulva complete with clitoris, clitoral hood, urethra, and G-spot (fashioned from velvet and silk no less). The Wondrous Vulva Puppet is the creation of Dorrie Lane, a Bay Area Sex therapist, and is a great tool to help educate women (and men) about intimate anatomy. According to Lane, a self-described vulvalutionary, at least 1 out of every 3 women is unfamiliar with her own anatomy. Not knowing how it all works is disempowering and can lead to health problems, unplanned pregnancy, and a less than satisfying sex life.

Most women welcome a way to open the dialogue about their anatomy and are usually glad someone cares enough to ask. Picture from textbooks are often overwhelming - what’s actually important can get lost among all the labels. We also have plastic models in the office, but I hate bringing them out because they look, well, too Barbie-like.

On the other hand, The Wondrous Vulva Puppet focuses on the key players: the clitoris and the G-spot, because if you are going to take away one piece of information from an anatomy lesson the directions to those two pleasure zones should be top on your list. The puppet also brings an instant smile to everyone’s face, and shouldn’t talking about sex be fun?

The puppets come in several colors, two different sizes, and are hand-made by a women’s fair-trade co-op in Peru.

Who might like a Wondrous Vulva?

Parents who are looking for an educational tool to help talk with their kids about intimate anatomy and sexual health. Teens who can dialogue with their parents engage in fewer risky sexual behaviors and have lower rates of teenage pregnancy.

A friend, a portal to better sex is always a welcome gift and it will put an instant smile on her face when she opens the box.

You ? a road map in your nightstand might help you and your partner achieve sexual nirvana. Remember, it’s never wrong to stop and ask for directions.

So if you or someone you know wants to learn more about female anatomy consider the Wondrous Vulva. You can order them on line from Dorrie at House O'Chicks and remember, Mother’s Day is just right around the corner…
