With the news that two more Canadian soldiers were killed by an IED near Kandahar City in Afghanistan, now is the perfect time to revisit the idea of writing to our troops.
The loss of Canadian troops in Afghanistan grew to a toll of 150 with the deaths of Master Corporal Kristal Giesebrecht from 1 Canadian Field Hospital, and Private Andrew Miller from 2 Field Ambulance, who were both based in Petawawa, Ontario.
While anytime is a great time to pick up your pen for the men and women who are defending our freedom, making Canada Day your annual day to write to our troops is a great way to celebrate Canada’s birthday.
Take some time to reflect upon the freedoms you enjoy while enjoying your day of parades, parties, barbecues and fireworks.
Morale by Message Board
Let your Canadian Forces members know you appreciate their service by sending a message on the Canadian Forces Message Board.
Share A Cup With A Brave Canuck
You can also send your support through the Share A Cup With A Brave Canuck Campaign, which was started by Ric Rangel-Bron, Share-A-Cup Coordinator and manager of operations at Toronto EMS, and whose goal it is to our goal is to provide each member with $10.00 Tim Cards which can be used at the Kandahar Airfield Tim Hortons outlet.
If you would like to donate and spread a little joy and share a taste of home with our men in women in arms, you can pick up a $10 Tim Hortons Gift Card at any Toronto Tim’s location, or via their website.
Make It Annual
While your support is appreciated throughout the year, why not make it a Canada Day tradition to send a message of support the men and women of the Canadian Army, Navy and Air Force?
Our troops will appreciate the support, and it will bring an added sense of meaning and national pride to your Canada Day celebrations.
