There’s no question that the literary community existed long before Twitter burst onto the scene, but that powerful little blue bird has ushered in a new medium for writers to share their works.

ver before has it been easier to find other writers, collaborate, network and interact. Daily chats on Twitter make it easy to bond with other writer types, and with a few quick keystrokes, you can find writing buddies around the world.

The birth of #fridayflash

Modeled after the popular #followfriday movement, where Twitter users post a list of people they think other users should be following, #fridayflash is simple: write fiction, blog, and social network all at the same time.

Started by author J.M Strother, #fridayflash now has an entire community of writers creating flash fiction, with members collectively posting their work every week.

Strother compiles a weekly report through his Friday Flash Collector, where participants can upload their story for others to read.

If you want to stay updated on the #fridayflash conversation on Twitter, simply perform a search using the hashtag #fridayflash to track the conversations and dialogue with other writers all over the world.

Flash fiction writers of the world unite

Now that you've written your flash fiction, there is a world of possibilities for you to network and share your writing. Twitter and its #fridayflash community is just one way to stay inspired and have your work seen by other flash fiction enthusiasts.

If you're looking for other local Twitter users to share your stories with, try Twitter user directories such as We Follow and Twellow. You can find people in your area easily be doing a quick search for your city.

For Torontonians, Twellow lists over 50,000 matches, while We Follow has 953 users.
