For budding space and fantasy enthusiasts, the Toronto Public Library is offering two speculative fiction writing workshops this winter.
Karl Schroeder, founding member of SF Canada, Canada's National Association for Speculative Fiction Professionals, and writer-in-residence at Toronto's Merril Collection of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Speculation from February to May 2010, will be teaching aspiring writers the ins and outs of short speculative fiction.
In Writing a Fantastic Short Story, Schroeder will discuss the mechanics of writing short science fiction and fantasy stories, including editing and sharpening their writing skills. The class will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2010 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
In his second workshop, Integrating Idea and Story, participants will receive invaluable tips on how to clarify the process of developing the story from the initial idea to its finished form. This class will be held on Thursday, March 25, 2010 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.
Both workshops will be held at the Lillian H. Smith branch of the Toronto Public Library, located at 239 College Street, 416-393-7746 (College Street and Spadina Ave)
