Summer is here and we all deserve a little rest & relaxation. But that does not mean you should forget about your writing goals.

Here are a few ways to stay committed to your craft.

Ditch Your Gadgets

Those snazzy gadgets are a lot of fun but they can also zap your productivity.

Why not go for a low-tech approach by picking up a pen & paper this summer?

It’s just as portable as your netbook or eReader but it also offers distraction-free writing time while people-watching, in the park or even at the beach.

As an added bonus, Ecojot’s “Buy One, We Give One” campaign will donate a notebook for every Ecojot journal, jumbo journal and sketchbook purchased in an effort to equip children in developing countries with basic school supplies.

 The Bottom Line

Taking a break from your writing every now and then is always a good idea. But try to flex your writing muscles every day, even during the Summer months, so your skills will stay sharp and to keep your creativity flowing.

With fun tools and a relaxed attitude, you can still reach your writing goals, remain inspired and enjoy your Summer, all at the same time.

Writing requires physical and mental concentration. Make sure you're well-fed, drink lots of water, and stay away from any addictions. There is a time for everything. Let people around you know that when you're writing, it's not the time for chit-chat.

Do all you need to do (all those other daily activities) before you begin writing or after you're done writing for the day. That way, the time you spend writing will be just for that - writing.

Also, do lots of research on your subject(s) and take notes before you write. That way you have a lot of info to draw upon as you write, without research breaks that could slow you down.

As un-fun as this sounds, seems like discipline is the writer's best friend. Doesn't mean you can't mix it up a little for summer but nothing feels worse than getting to the end of the summer and having little to show for it. Mary's tips are perfect for staying on track.
