Author Ian Rogers has been making a name for himself in the horror literary world, and fans are thrilled by his signature mixture of horror and detective fiction.
With a catalog of stories that are dark in tone and which explore everything from ghosts to demons, Rogers is well-schooled in the art of scaring readers.
But his supernatural detective series of stories deftly mixes darker tones with the thrilling adventure that comes with the classic whodunnit.
In a recent interview with horror book review website Bloody Bookish, Rogers shared his influences, and how the combination of two disparate genres is not necessarily a stretch.
“Combining the private investigator with ghosts and ghouls is truly akin to the meeting of peanut butter and chocolate,” Rogers says. “Since they've been brought together, it's hard to imagine them apart.”
Reviews for Rogers work praise his writing as “one of the most original takes on the whole supernatural-meets-detective themes you’re ever likely to read”, tout his stories as writing that “bleeds raw emotion that really lives on the page and infects the reader”, and touts his work as “a fun hybrid of P.I. noir, classic monsters, and some well done humor that doesn't overshadow the action”, as well as praising Rogers for doing “a heckuva job layering grime all over Toronto”.
If you are looking for the next generation of writers who are bringing a fun, fresh and decidedly darker voice to the detective genre, give Ian Rogers a look.
