The Word On The Street (WOTS) has been trumpeting literacy since 1990 and the Adopt An Author Program allows the book-loving public to show an extra level of support to keeping literature alive and well in Toronto.
With a steady of growth and annual attendees often bypassing the 200,000 mark in Toronto alone, WOTS continues to live up to their original mandate of fostering awareness and appreciation for our local artists, the written word and literacy in our community.
The general public play an important part in the succss of the festival and now you can go one step further by adopting an author.
A $100 donation to the Adopt an Author program will garner you the following perks:
- A tax receipt for your charitable donation
- Meet your author and get a signed copy of your author’s book
- Your name announced at your author’s reading
- A personalized certificate
- Acknowledgement on The Word On The Street Toronto’s website
- A chance to be a part of Canada’s largest one-day literary festival
The 2010 Toronto Word On The Street Festival
Interested parties can select an author from the available authors list or allow WOTS to surprise them with any of the worthy authors. Bios of all participating authors can be viewed on the Word On The Street website.
The deadline to adopt is Sunday, September 22, 2010. The 2010 edition of the festival takes place at Queen’s Park on Sunday, September 26 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
For more information about the program or to adopt an author email Kristen at specialprojects@thewordonthestreet.ca or call WOTS at (416) 504-7241.

Love word on the street - I go every year but I had no idea you could adopt an author! Thanks for the heads up!
What an innovative way to foster involvement and interest in writing and all the arts. Like Kristal, I didn't know you could adopt an author. And Word on the Street sounds like a lively Toronto event, for writers, artists, and citizens alike.
What an awesome idea.
Great idea!
Perhaps one day there will be a 'Adopt an Examiner' program
