Who is looking for writers?

You need to know where you're going in order to get there.

Currently in the publishing industry there are contractions and reorganizations but there IS good news. There are still places who are interested in submissions. I have recently done a number of blogs and posts on markets that are open to submissions. Not all of these are paying markets but many times it is the non-paying market that will bring you exposure and give you the experience that opens doors to paying markets.

1. Examiner.com

Yes, this is a paying market. Not only do they pay you based on traffic but they give you exposure you wouldn't already have. Read this in depth posting I wrote on my Writing Career Coach blog that explains the benefits of being an examiner.

2. Suspensemagazine.com

This is a great market that is not only open to people who'd like to write, but also to individuals who are interested in investing in a publishing company. Check out this interview with the editor of Suspense Magazine. And if you'd like to know more about the magazine go to www.Suspensemagazine.com.

3. Look in to local businesses and marketing companies.

While waiting for that elusive publishing contract look in to opportunities to earn an income with your writing by examining writing opportunities around you. Can you write a newsletter for a local business? Do you have connections with writing groups that will help open editing opportunities?

Being a writer is about more than simply seeing your name on the cover of a book or in a magazine. Writing is a full-time, multi-faceted profession that have opportunities limited only by the imagination of the writer pursuing them.

Hello Tiffany, I like this article, good information. I am also a book writer and am currently showcasing my book "The Sacred Journal-2005" right here on Examiner on my column. I wrote this book after section hiking the Georgia part of the famous Appalachian Trail. I like that I can now make it available for free to my readers. Feel free to talk about me :-)
