Faith Awakened
Today we are interviewing author Grace Bridges. Her most recent novel is, Faith Awakened.
Grace Bridges is a sci-fi author (Faith Awakened, 2007, and Legendary Space Pilgrims, coming in 2009) and owner of Splashdown Books, an independent publisher of inspirational sci-fi and fantasy. She's a Kiwi of Irish descent living in beautiful New Zealand, and a chocaholic cat-lovin' Trekkie, Jesus freak, web designer, and all-round DIY gal who also takes care of the Lost Genre Guild blog.
Grace took a few minutes to talk about publishing from a writer's perspective with Tiffany Colter.
Tiffany Colter: Upcoming projects?
Grace Bridges: After re-releasing Faith Awakened and publishing The Muse by Fred Warren, my next project is to publish my new novel Legendary Space Pilgrims. It's almost ready in fact, but my dad died recently and I've had to put several things on hold to take care of family stuff. At the same time, I have a number of new authors I'd like to bring on board and will be working with them on edits and design and marketing for releases through 2010 and beyond. I'm rewriting my third novel, CyberDublin, and hope to publish that eventually, as well as continuing work on Godspeed, a companion volume to Faith Awakened. Then of course Legendary Space Pilgrims and CyberDublin are both crying out for sequels, which exist in embryonic form (think one-sentence summary!) and I also have two collaborative sci-fi novel projects running with author friends of mine, which I'm very excited about and hope to complete in the year to come.
TC: How do you market yourself and your writing?
GB: All of the above! No, really, it's a multifaceted process that I find is fun and exhilarating - from finding actors and music for book trailers, to arranging interviews on radio and TV, to handing out fridge magnets at events, to creating websites, to making announcements at church, to designing and selling thematic T-shirts, to networking with book reviewers online. There's never a dull moment! It takes a lot of time and I've found it's most important to be open and responsive - reply to emails and tweets and blog comments promptly, and people will respect you for that. Contests with prizes of free books are always a hit, too.
TC: Who has really influenced you?
GB: C.S. Lewis, John White, Stephen Lawhead and Frank Peretti were the first authors I truly connected with as a youngster. Later, since entering the author scene, many of my colleagues at the Lost Genre Guild have been fantastic examples to me - among them Frank Creed, Caprice Hokstad, and Jeremy Robinson.
TC: Anything else you'd like to add?
GB: Come connect with me at Twitter www.twitter.com/gracebridges - and check out my various blogs: Splashdown Reviews www.splashdownreviews.blogspot.com - where I review every piece of Christian speculative fiction that comes my way; My personal blog at www.gracebridges.blogspot.com with video reports and random poetry; and the Lost Genre Guild blog at www.blog.lostgenreguild.com with news from all over the Christian speculative fiction genres, which I help to run a lot of the time. For a complete index of my online presences just head over to www.gracebridges.com - I'm certain you'll find something there to interest you. Thanks very much for asking, and thanks for your time!
