M. M. Gornell gives characters depth by own life lessons

M. M. Gornell

M.M. Gornell is a lifetime lover of mysteries of all types, and her favorite novelist is P. D. James. Besides reading and writing, she is a potter with a fondness for stoneware and reduction firing. Also a gardener, she is continually searching for desert adaptable plants to nurture--especially rare fruit trees such as Jujube.

M.M. Gornell lives with her husband and assorted canines in California’s high-desert.

When asked about what she writes and how age has helped her be a better writer she says. "My books (2) are mysteries with a sense of place, protagonists readers can identify with, and good who-dunnit mystery twists. Of course I'm biased!

"The future focuses me. Moving forward into new adventures is the substance of a life being well lived. Nonetheless, with the status of a “mature-woman” comes a wealth of lessons already learned—occasionally painfully. I’ve experienced many of life’s joys, felt the pangs of too many final good-byes—and along the way, tried to write innumerable tales of fiction.

"I expect many mature-woman authors have also seen the good, been touched by the bad, and had many “adventures” of their own. I think it’s this treasure of “life-lived” experiences that we draw from to give our characters depth, and to weave a meaningful story that touches a chord in our reader’s psyches and hearts.

"And for me, that’s what it’s all about. My readers."

One thing for sure, M. M. certainly knows how to pick the names of her novels. What women wouldn't be intrigued by a book that claims death of a perfect man.

She also invites readers to read her blog.

Her books, she reports, are both winners of the PSWA Award. Pick up your copy of each and enjoy.
