Taura Mizrahi at LA's Largest Mixer.
Knowing the importance of networking to build business, last week I attended the L.A.'s Largest Mixer event at the Shrine Auditorium. This event was attended by over 2500 people streaming through the aisles of over 225 exhibitors. Not only was it a great opportunity to meet prospective clients, but also it proved an excellent resource to build partnerships and for business development.
In Los Angeles County there are a number of chambers of commerce to plug into. Very often members of your local chamber are businesses that need writing for their websites, brochures, or collateral materials. This is a great way to grow your writing business, and hone your networking skills. Some local chambers are:
- Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce
- West LA Chamber of Commerce
- Malibu Chamber of Commerce
- Beverly Hills Chamber of Commerce
- Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce
- Century City Chamber of Commerce
These are just a few of the many chambers available in LA County. You might try attending one of their events to get an idea of the businesses with memberships in your local chamber. There are also business organizations for women as well as for various ethnic groups.
Regardless of whether or not you join your chamber, just one event can pay for itself if you retain a single client. At the very least, it is a great way to get out there and gain exposure. It is important to remember that this is a writing business, and you must treat it as a business if you want to prosper. This includes marketing and promoting your business. Do so effectively and you just might be able to keep away from cubicle living.
