WPS auction

Women’s Professional Soccer will auction off game day items from its Inaugural Season over the next month to benefit the Michelle Akers Horse Rescue, a farm founded by soccer legend Michelle Akers to protect, heal, and provide a happy home to hurting, unwanted, and problem horses. After unprecedented levels of rain during the past three months, the farm has come under intense rains recently to the point of flooding and extensive repairs have been made necessary from water damage. Horses have been kept safe at nearby stables as temporary quarters and estimates at repairs range upwards of $50,000.

For its part, Women’s Professional Soccer, whose annual MVP Award is named the Michelle Akers Player of the Year Award after Akers, will auction autographed game day balls from the 2009 WPS Championship presented by MedImmune and the 2009 WPS All-Star Game presented by Coast Guard as well as autographed jerseys from the WPS Playoffs. The money raised from these items will be donated to the Michelle Akers Horse Rescue & Outreach, Inc. an established 501(c)3.

We ask all fans to consider donating. More can be read about Michelle Akers Horse Rescue and the current flooding at http://www.michelleakershorserescue.com/. Akers is one of soccer’s all-time legends, appearing in 156 games, notching 105 goals for the U.S. National Team, while winning two World Cup titles and one Olympic gold medal.
