Planning to watch the Vancouver Olympic Games? Now you have another reason to do so.

That reason is the world premier of the 'We Are The World - 25 For Haiti,' which will air during NBC's coverage of the Opening Ceremony of the Vancouver Winter Olympics on Friday, February 12.

Lionel Richie, Quincey Jones and Michael Jackson wrote the original song “We are the World” 25 years ago to help the victims of the Ethiopian famine.

And the song was a huge success.

It will undoubtedly be a huge success again, with over 70 celebrities having come together to record the same song, 25 years later.

The world premiere of “We are the World – 25 for Haiti“ will include singers like Barbra Streisand, the Jonas Brothers, Justin Bieber, Jordin Sparks, Jennifer Hudson and Celine Dion along with many, many more.

Canadian Justin Bieber, the 15-yeard old chart-topper, was chosen to sing the first line, much to the delight of his fans.

Both he and Jordin Sparks tweeted their awe and excitement at being in the presence of so many other celebrities and being part of this fund-raising campaign.

Nobody tweeted 25 years ago, of course, Twitter didn’t exist. Now it's the number 1 searched-for word online.

But what did exist, was the same need for celebrities to do what they could to help.

And San Franciscans are delighted with what the stars are putting together.

San Franciscan local, Frank Witham, says, “I think it’s wonderful that the stars are coming together and using their talent and celebrity status to do something for this shattered nation.

I remember the original “We are the World” with Michael Jackson singing. Many things may be different 25 years, but the need to help those less fortunate than ourselves has not changed."

The recording, which happened on February 2, 2010, took place at the Jim Henson Studios in Hollywood where the original Michael Jackson/Lionel Ritchie/Quincey Jones music was recorded.

The song will be well worth watching at the Vancouver Winter Olympics and the music well worth buying, especially since it will bring in money to help in the Haiti relief efforts.

Singing outreach for more help for Haiti in the Olympic Games is a good idea. It also reminds us that the Olympic Games is about people being united.
