SAN FRANCISCO, Ca. -- If you are in San Francisco and you love art, then don't fail to see the mural, "The Perception of Color Therapy" on Market Street between 6th and 7th Streets. It was done by the artist Chor Boogie who specializes in spray paint artwork. Boogie is an artist who made an amazing recovery from an earlier addiction and who moved to San Francisco in 2007.

Here we caught up with the artist.

Examiner: Hi, can you tell us what made you chose this path?

Boogie: I chose this path of artistry, not only because it was fate or destiny, but simply because I believe in it. My style is an abstract expressionism of a street romantic voodoo with emotional landscapes. It's a melodic symphony through color therapy. So take 50% mind +50% heart= 100% body+100% soul = 200% spirit. Then add an infinite universe and you have a chorboogie creation.

Examiner: What's the inspiration behind your work?

Boogie: The inspiration and motivation behind my work comes from historical artists like Michelangelo, Da Vinci, Dali, and Gustav Klimt, but also from my spray paint contemporaries like Phase 2, Vulcan, and Apex, I credit all these artists. They helped change my life because they gave me their inspiration and their friendship.

Examiner: Did you begin young?

Boogie: Yes. I was exposed to this medium of spray paint at the age of 10. I explored both negative and positive aspects of it. The lessons I learned from using this kind of medium are some I will always be grateful for.

Examiner: You had a rough life, is that correct?

Boogie: In my life I have been shot at, stabbed, in jail, in fights, robbed and have stolen from others. I have gone from being close to death to learning to love myself and finding life, truth, patience, tolerance, abundance and peace.

Now I have found balance not only as an artist but as a person living life on life's terms.

Examiner: What is your vision for the future?

Boogie: I see myself as an artist basically spreading the word about this form of art. I'd love to see it accepted more in the fine art world.

I see my work as timeless and eventually going down in art history.

People are showing great respect for my work and I would like to thank them for that.

San Francisco
visitors and those who live here can admire his outstanding mural, Perception of Color Therapy, on Market Street between 6th and 7th Streets. This mural, mentioned on the website, curb and stoops, takes up nearly half of a city block and Chor Boogie returned to finish his work on it, even after getting stabbed in the neighborhood while working on it.

Nice murals. "My style is an abstract expressionism of a street romantic voodoo with emotional landscapes." Sounds good and romantic, but, what did he really want to say? What is: "street romantic voodoo?" I grew up in a real voodoo environment and mostly it's not that great! Sorry. Perhaps it means better in the art world?

What amazing insight into a contemporary icon in today's art scene in San Francisco.
