Teleprompter president in St. Patty's Day gaffe

Charlie Archambault

Once thought of as a refuge for fatuous TV anchors or movie stars at awards ceremonies, the teleprompter has been given a key role in the Obama administration.

Rarely does Obama deliver public comments without one, rendering specious many of Obama acolytes' past and present dismissive comments towards an incompetent Bush administration. After all, one sign of real competence is being able to think on one's feet and communicate information without a script.

After only a few short weeks, the use of the Obama teleprompter is beginning to expose Obama's incapacity to function properly without one.

Just yesterday, during a St. Patrick's Day event with the Irish prime minister, Obama's guest accidentally repeated teleprompter remarks that Obama had just delivered.

Next, trying to regain control of the situation, Obama interjected - but referred to the teleprompter for his lines.  By this point the words on the teleprompter were those meant to be delivered by the Irish Prime Minister Brian Cowen, and as a result, President Barack Obama thanked himself for inviting everyone to the party.

If Bush had to use a teleprompter like Hussein does--every where he goes--he would be blasted as an idiot! I guess we know who the real idiot is now!

Aren't lawyers supposed to be able to think on their feet without a script?

Even Ronald Reagan - repeatedly castigated by his many critics for being unable to breathe without a script - was more adept and far wittier than Obama has proven to be.

Obama is going out of his way to make GWB look good. I have the sneaky feeling that history will consider the Obama administration to be on a par with, or worse than, Carter, Tyler, and Buchanan.

What a joke. I predict that it will only get worse. Especially if he decides to not use the Presidential Prompter.

Obambi needs to work on his teleprompter strategery. Where's the CNN ten minute exposure and Liz Smith diagnosis on his ADD and dyslexia (sp?)

I guess that being a community organizer is just not the best training for President after all.
And his wife could do with borrowing a White House teleprompter too for when she is out on the stump. Life is just one big new discovery after another.

Get a clue. Obama was making a joke by pretending to read his guest's speech. All of the credible news accounts note this fact. When John McCain got creamed by Obama in the debates, did Obama have a teleprompter? No. Does he have one in his press conferences and press events? No. Does he have them when he delivers long, intricately detailed policy responses to questions in his town hall meetings? No.

Its pretty scary that he cant seem to even form a sentence without the use of the T.P. He might be stupider than BUsh. (Imagine if this happened to BUSH!?) Wow..the Media would be all over it.

This is another one of those GOP shiny objects to distract everyone, and as usual it's idiotic and pointless. Seriously, I really want our president to focus on important things right now, not memorizing lines.

I'm so disappointed in the press. Now, more than ever we need them to inform and report, and all we get is this asinine crapola?

And Ed Henry and CNN are starting to seem desperate. It's just not that big a deal. It was an amusing moment to most of us. So what? The guy is over-reacting to the enth degree. He should laugh it off and just move on.

Everything tiny thing is SUCH a big soap opera. The world's crashing down around our ears, and we're building sand castles in the surf. It's getting so absurd it's surreal. If Obama got a hang nail, it would would garner a front page/week long media blitz.

People! Please start acting like you have a lick of sense. People are going hungry and homeless, and THIS is what you're mindlessly blathering on about? It makes me ashamed of our "free press."

hey BH, to be honest you need to get a clue, osama uses more teleprompters than every news station combined. The guy is probably incapable of even sneezing without it being in the script, and also, if you think obama creamed McCain in debates then you obviously cant see that all he did was talk in circles and make promises he can never keep, the guy never speaks straight. if he ever speaks at all its reading off a prompter, and by the way, he does have prompters at his press conferences, all presidents do, thats just how it works, and if you think that moron is capable of an intricate and detailed response then you must be deaf. he probably couldnt give a detailed response if it was on a prompter a foot in front of his face. But the true test will be if you still support him a year from now, his popularity dropped 30% in his first hundred days, what will 3 years bring? and i have one thing to say about all this talk about his first hundred days, he bought a dog while the country burned
