At a time of increased violence, corruption, and financial strain, Mexico is reported to be on the verge of collapse.
US troops stationed near the border are warned not to go into Mexico, 200 Americans have been killed in Mexico since 2004, drug cartels brutally murder civilians, and the U.S. Department of Defense recently listed Mexico second only to Pakistan as a country capable of completely collapsing.
In response to what appears to be near-anarchy in Mexico, Texas law enforcement is preparing for the worst; though, officials acknowledge that preparations for a huge influx of refugees may also be necessary.
The town of Juárez, Mexico, which lies just across the border from El Paso, has already seen 200 murders this year. This has caused increasing numbers of the town’s residents to flee to the north.
US President Barack Obama has yet to indicate how his administration would respond if the dueling drug cartels that control much of Mexico bring down Mexico’s weakened central government.
Advanced planning for Mexico’s disintegration must be taking place at the highest levels within the US Military, FEMA, and the Homeland Security Administration, as such an occurrence could set off a series of events that is likely to create social dislocations and public unrest far greater than those caused by Hurricane Katrina, and possibly even September 11, 2001.
Discussion on Mexico's precarious situation

Mr. Craig Meister,
I think you a little behind your studing. Mexico was not declared as a colapsing nation, the petagon's spokesman apologized to the nation of Mexico for the coments that were supposed to be material for academic analysis by Interns at the Pentagon and somehow a retired Military came across that information and thought it was true. How embarrising for Americans when a fool like that old man at the pentagon decides to run his mouth and some people believe it without even questioning it. Mexico its on its way to success: Massive infrastructure developement, highways, hospitals, schools etc. Stable banking system, National finances better thab those of the US(proven by the crisis). Is this really a collapsing nation????? and also the mafia is getting their butt kicked big time like they never have before just like it happened in the U.S. in the 50s.
It is incredible how prejudiced and irresponsible people such as Mr. Craig Meister tries to harm a friendly country of the U.S., such as Mexico, by portraying it to the brink of disaster. I acknowledge the present difficulties, but they are not greater than those facing the U.S. In these times the best recipe is for both countries to work together to wipe out corporate corruption, drug consumption, frenzy spending, financial disturbances, etc.
You are right Ismael,
Notice also the host of that video he posted. so ignorant!! But whats sad is that this is the people the average american tv viewer watches.
Notice he jokingly says "we should stop using drugs" In fact he touched an important point!! The American society is the largest drug-consumer in the world!! They also acuse Mexico of being corrupt! What they dont say is that the almighty US is also very corrupted by this mexican mafia. All of the big-guns killing mexican police-men and soldiers they all have a familiar logo that says "US ARMY". How are these guns getting there? So many border patrol checkpoints before reaching mexico!! Maybe these agencies are also corrupt!! Out of the two countries, Mexico is the one portrayed as the corrupt one, but if you open your eyes a bit you can clearly see that that is not the case. Everyday, you see in the news, a mexican policemen died in duty, but you never hear of a sheriff or some other policemen getting in a gun fight with Mexican gangsters, when in fact the mexican mafia is just as strong as it is in Mexico, here on US ground.
I really think that a great part of the weed taht is grown in mexico is smoked by americans, soyou are the ones you need to be afraid of.
By the way, what the guy saw is not happening in the whole country, thats just in the north (the part nearest to your country, just so you know)the rest of the country is really cool. So i'd really like that you check your information before warning every american and making them scared. Thanks
