Peshawar and Bannu District, Pakistan – Pakistan was rattled by two bombings on Friday which in total claimed the lives of at least 19 and injured over 80. These bombings are only the latest in a series of bombings committed by the Taliban in their response to Pakistan’s military offensive in South Waziristan against the group which started in October.

In the first attack, a deadly car bombing at an office of the Pakistani intelligence agency killed at least 12 people and injured more than 60. The Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency works heavily on Pakistan’s anti-terrorism campaign.

An anonymous military official told the BBC, “The bomber was asked to stop at a checkpoint next to the ISI offices here at 6.45 am. As he tried to use the car to force his way through the guards outside opened fire on him. He then detonated the explosives.”

According to Reuters, a wounded soldier stated that the vehicle appeared to be the same type of which medical supplies are transported. The soldier stated, “All of a sudden it appeared on the wrong side of the road and began coming toward the office.” He continued, “The guards opened fire but it came to the entrance of the building as the firing went on and exploded.”

In addition, Southwest of Peshawar in the North West Frontier Province's Bannu District, there was another bombing which killed seven and wounded 23 others. The attackers ran a car into the Bakka Khel police station. Five of the seven killed were policemen.
