As part of my on-going personal development plan for keeping my skills up to date, I will be attending a local technology conference here in Tampa called Barcamp Tampa Bay. I am attending as a human resources professional, business writer, and an amateur geek. I highly recommend that all professionals do this once or twice a year.
I will be going to another tech conference next wekend when I attend IZEAfest, a conference for bloggers, writers, and geeks in Orlando.
If you choose to attend, be prepared for an unconventional approach to running a conference.
Unlike traditional conferences, a BarCamp, is known as an “unconference,”. This means it is an event where people from a wide variety of inteerests come together to decide on the topics of the program, and then they teach it that day. You can learn a lot, but you have to flexible and willing to engage.
The second annual BarCamp Tampa 2009 will be taking place Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 26 and 27 at the University of South Florida college of business. Saturday will focus on technology, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday’s new media day will start at 9:30 a.m. and end at 5:30 p.m.
Food and music will be provided during both days.
BarCamp will attract thought leaders and professionals from technology and new and social media industries to discuss and explore new developments in their fields. Topics to be dicussed will include startups, entrepreneurship,
Food, beverages and music will be provided both days of the event. There will be $20,000 in Real Mac software given away first to those who make a $20 donation and remaining copies will be raffled off to other event participants.
