Information just released today form a new smoking study shows that third hand smoking is bad for you.  Third hand smoking is defined as: "tobacco residue clinging to surfaces ".

Per a news release by Yahoo, Hugo Destaillatst, a corresponding author of the study states "TSNAs( carcinogenic tobacco-specific nitrosamines) are among the most broadly acting and potent carcinogens present in unburned tobacco and tobacco smoke."    Basically it means that no matter where you smoke, a smoker will be carrying these TSNA's on their skin or on their clothing.  The TSNA's can also cling to furniture, walls, and be in dust.

How can you stop the spread of third-hand smoke?  Well, the obvious is to quit smoking altogether.  Cold turkey is not always the best option for every smoker.  Here are a few ways to help get started with quitting smoking.

1.  Contact your Doctor and ask about prescription medicines that help with quitting smoking.  Chantix is one of the leading prescription medications to help smokers quit.    According to Chantix's website, "CHANTIX is a non-nicotine prescription medicine specifically developed to help adults 18 and over quit smoking."    Another prescription medication is Zyban

2. Call 1-800-QUIT NOW.  This is the official state "quit line" that will help connect smokers with information they need to quit, especially pregnant smokers.

3.  Go to a smoking cessation class.  Union Hospital, here in Terre Haute, offers the class. Hours of Service: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  They are located at 16060 N. 7th Street, Terre Haute.   Another location that offers the class is The Maple Center, Inc.  They are located at 1801 North 6th Street, Suite 600, Terre Haute.
