For working parents, choosing someone or someplace to look after your child or children is a major decision we all make. Finding that right person or place is beneficial to a parent's peace of mind.
Peace of mind is what Jaime Speth was looking for while she was working at a local home improvement store here in Terre Haute and her two young children were in daycare. Like all of us, she wanted to be able to stay home with her children, but couldn't afford to lose her income. So, she started her own in-home daycare, "Lil Angel's Daycare". When asked why she started her own business, she states " One, I wanted to stay home with my own children. But like most families you need two incomes. Opening my own daycare allowed me to do both. The second reason was I had always wanted to work with/teach children." Since Jaime had peace of mind of her own, she wanted to be able to offer that same peace of mind to other families.
Jaime, along with her husband Dustin (whom is a 5th grade teacher at a local elementary school) and one other employee, offer a well-structured environment for children ranging in ages from 3 months old to 12 years old. Her hours of operation are from 6:30 A.M. - 5 P.M., Monday thru Friday.
In order to have her daycare, Jaime and any employee's have to be CPR certified and follow the guidelines that are set by the state of Indiana. All employees are also drug-tested and have background checks ran.
Not only does Jaime run her own business, but she also attends St. Mary of the Woods College in the WED program and still finds time for her family. Her two older children are very active in school and summer sports programs. She was asked how she manages to do all of this, and she stated "This at times is very overwhelming. I have to be very organized, dedicated to all aspects in my life and have good time management skills. School is a goal I am achieving for myself. To have a college degree is something I have always wanted. I have completed my Associate degree from SMWC in Early Childhood Education, this will benefit the children I care for in my daycare. I am continuing on with my education to receive my bachelors degree in Preschool-Third with Mild Intervention. Being a mom and a wife are the highlights of my life! I could not take on school, owning my own business and taking care of my family without my families continued support."
