Many adults are now choosing to return to the classroom. The St. Louis Community College, is participating in a program offered for aging baby boomers. The American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) Plus 50 program, is a three year effort to involve two year institutions in creating campus programs, for the 50 plus age group. Funding comes from the Atlantic Philanthropies in the form of a $3.2 million dollar grant. The AACC uses this grant to support the efforts of schools such as St. Louis Community College (STLCC)
Following is a list of courses and workshops.
- In an effort to offer this program to the 50 plus age group, STLCC has scheduled a workshop designed to help baby boomers look toward their future. Are they interested in retiring, or maybe changing professions and continuing to work? The Re-inspired Workshop will be held during March of 2010.
- The Re-Wired Employment Seminar has no fee associated with it. This seminar will work with individuals who are not ready to retire, but may be ready to change careers. They will explore resume and interview strategies, as well as learn about new networking options such as LinkedIn. This seminar will be held in Feb and again in April.
- The Plus 50 Entrepreneur, discover the skills needed to operate your business. This course coveres everything from advertising and promotion to licensing and record keeping.
- Gen X and Y, learn how to work with and for the younger generation. Ease the gaps in communication as you learn the skills needed to promote a positive work environment, while coping with the generational differences.
While the Plus 50 program is a great way to initiate a change in life, it is not the only way to go back to school. STLCC offers several courses designed for the adult returning to school. Included are non credit courses, for personal enrichment. Other returning learners may opt for credit courses, choosing only the courses they are interested in taking.
Along with the choices listed above, there are several degree and certificate programs to choose from. Going back to school is becoming more popular among baby boomers. Learn about the options available at the St, Louis Community College website.
