Entrepreneurial mom launches new iPhone app, "Creople", with a celebrity-judged jingle contest

Kathy Meyer's idea for a clever iPhone App came one night watching her children entertain themselves with a fun and simple drawing game.  They were folding up a piece of paper and drawing different body parts, hiding each section as it was being drawn, creating funny, giggle-inducing creature-people.

Meyer hatched the idea for "Creople" then and there, and was on the government website applying for a trademark that very night.

Teaming up with a New York iPhone game application developer, SignalFive LLC, Meyer and her husband decided to self-finance the entrepreneurial endeavor, after unsuccessful efforts to obtain funding through other sources.  Meyer's perseverance paid off, as iPhone recently approved "Creople", available for purchase for $1.99.

Meyer is kicking off the "Creople" launch with a $1,000 Jingle Contest for kids.  Finalists will be selected by an impressive judges panel that  includes Crystal Waters (famous for her 1990's AMA-nominated hit Gypsy Woman (She's Homeless)), Sheryl Staples of the New York Philharmonic, and musicians, Charles Lachman and Kelly McCabe.  (The judges' bios can be found here.)

Along the road to launching Creople, Meyer says she has had to get savvy about social media.  Joining popular sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, and Working Mom site, MyWorkButterfly.com, Meyer explains that the key is to think about who your real target audience is and focus on them, rather than trying to reach everyone all the time.  She also discovered that responding to relevant blog postings is a great way to communicate with your targeted audience.
