Many of us of a “certain age” played with Barbie dolls when we were young and some of us even collect them. Even today, after all these years, Barbie’s are still pretty popular with children. After all, posing and dressing Babs and all her friends in all sorts of fun fashions is just way too fun. And just in case you haven’t heard, the new line of Barbie dolls has created quite the buzz. The new doll, Totally Stylin’ Tattoos Barbie, has tattoos.
As Barbie turns 50 this year, the new look has definitely raised a few eyebrows and has caught the attention of many parents. In fact, the new Barbie has outraged many concerned parents. So is Barbie a role-model for many young and impressionable girls and boys or is she an iconic figure that is, after all, just a doll? Does the curvaceous Barbie show way too much skin and possibly alter impressionable young children’s sense of body image? And if Barbie has tattoos, will our young children want tattoos too? So what do you think? Is this new Barbie totally inappropriate for young children or is she simply keeping up with the times?
The Totally Stylin’ Barbie is packaged with a choice of two dolls, Barbie or Nikki. She comes with new clothes, 40 fun tattoos and a handy applicator. You can tattoo Barbie, add a tattoo to her clothing and even tattoo your BFF. And to be clear, the no-mess tattoos are sticker-like and are temporary.
Although Barbie has had her share of controversies over the years, just imagine how much fun little girls, or boys, will have at your next birthday party or sleepover. The Totally Stylin’ Tattoos Barbie sells for $25 and is recommended for children 5 and over.

If someone thinks Barbie is supposed to be a role model, they need to get a life. Barbie is a toy- nothing more. Children learn more from their parents than their toys. I don't have any tattoos but I wouldn't be upset if my kids wanted them, people of the world- relax, you're making all of this up.
People "relax"? How about people, boycott Mattel? It's not enough that eating disorders, plastic surgeries, teen pregnancies, and STDs are at an all time high? it's not enough that a pre-school girl can use a tattoo "gun" and just wash off a tat she doesn't like? Tattoos are the street fashion of whores and thugs. Tats don't wash off. Women do not need to brand themselves to apologize for being authentic and empowered. there is no tattoo in the world more beautiful than healthy beautiful skin, or a woman unapologetically empowered for who she is. Tramp-Barbie is the absolute wrong message for little girls. Moms wearing tramp stamps says cheap & don't care who knows. Barbie is more than a toy: she is the role model for the imaginative play healthy children need.If you think Mattel is OK, see "Burqa Barbie"; of course, she's not allowed out of the box to do anything. WTG, Mattel.
Let's tell girls to be invisible or strip & whore. Neither embraces authenticity of empowered girls.
tattoos do not make a person a whore or thug. some people like art on their walls, and others like it on their skin. get with the times people. tattoos do not make a person bad. its their actions.
They are learning more from the stars you parents let them watch EVERYDAY on tv. Hannah, Victorious, Hell even Spongebob for that matter. Its up to YOU AS THE PARENTS to teach your kids RIGHT from WRONG. I mean seriously they have barbies that you can cut there hair and my kids don't run around cutting there own hair. Hell they've pulled there heads off but have never hurt another child~ Its all on how you raise your kids.
My son has played cops and robbers (with toy guns) and cowboys and indians (with weapons) but is a PERFECT, respectful, would give you the shirt off his back in a heart beat and he's 24. Whats the excuses now, I'll tell you what it is... I AM a good parent and my children are explained the difference between real and make-believe. you even get temporary tattoos in cracker jack boxes and your DAMN RIGHT i let my kids wear em' cause THERE NOT REAL!!! Try worring about what "STAR" "MUSICIAN" "RAPPER" or TV Show that is influcing your kids. Not toys. They are TOYS!
