What happens if all of the sudden you were the oldest person in town?

I'd like to share a conversation I had today with my grandmother (age 91).  She told me if her brother and sister-in-law leave town for the winter, she will be the oldest person in town.  She also mentioned she used to grumble about the "old people" who generally came out of the woodwork to go to church over the holidays.  She's now leading the pack.  My husband told me she should still grumble about the old people.

Time goes by...fast.  I clearly remember, circa 1980, my parents dragging themselves out of bed because they could hear me ripping into presents at 6 a.m. (and every other morning of the year, it was them cajoling me out of bed.)   It's all of the sudden 2009 and I am the disheveled parent of an excited 4 and 7 year old Christmas morning.  I feel the same on the inside, but my life is so different!

Grandma Rose also said that her doctor told she would be completely without sight by Spring.  I asked how she felt about that - she told me she is losing her sight so gradually that she hasn't noticed day by day.  The same could be applied to anything problematic - weight, stress - you name it.  I guess it depends on your attitude and your decision makes it what it is to you.

So, look around at your 2009 holiday and ask yourself:  What will be important for years to come and what will be a distant memory?
