Are you living the life you want?

The day after the death of Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson, I received word that a promising, bright, young college intern that I hired had passed. In processing the death of these individuals, I realized the value of their lives. They all had so much talent to share with the world and they all had an opportunity to live a life doing what they loved even through their trials and tribulations. In response to the sudden death of Michael Jackson,  a very close friend made the following assessment: (1) We are not promised tomorrow so we need to live our life for today; (2) Love to the fullest; and (3) Tell those that you love and care about how you feel before it is too late.
Going through life in a job you hate, not exploring your dreams and living for others could be your legacy unless you take steps towards doing exactly what you want. Have you become complacent at work? Are you doing the things you love? What is your ideal job?   Have you been passed up for promotions and advancement but cannot understand why? Have you accomplished your goals and dreams?  What is holding you back from living the life you want or do you already have the life you want but don’t know it?
It is never too late to start doing what you are passionate about. There are steps you can take to begin the process of discovering exactly what you want and to start wanting what you already have. It is important to understand that it is possible that you already have all that you really want but have not discovered that you already possess it. What do you equate with personal success? Most people believe that it involves material things but personal success is really about embracing yourself for who you are, tapping your inner spirit, being grateful for what you have and striving for joy, peace and happiness.
Here are a few steps you can take in getting what you want and finding your passion:
  • Take an assessment of your current state. Review the pros and cons of your work and home life. Make a list including topics such as career, finance, relationships, family, time management, health and wellness, and spirit. Rate each topic based on a scale of 1 to 10 with one being unsatisfactory and ten being outstanding.
  • Find your purpose, plan and passion. Focus on what is most important to you, make a list of things you wish you could do if there were no obstacles and then think about things that you accomplished that brought you the most joy. Seek spiritual inspiration, coaching and guidance if you are unable to recall happy, achievable and proud moments in your life.
  • Start a list of short and long term goals with completion dates. Check and update the list weekly, compile a list of reached goals and post this list in a place where you can review it daily.
  • Improve your performance and relationships. It is important when seeking personal success that you strive to perform at the highest level, master your skills and increase your productivity. Find ways to stay motivated and positive even when faced with the worst situation. Enhance all of your personal and professional relationships by working towards building strong allies that can assist you with realizing your dreams.
Finding what you want takes work and effort. To find the personal success you desire you must first commit to it. It is never too late to start.

Great Article! Someone once said if you do what you love, you'll never have to work again in your life. We all have something powerful to give to the world. Let's share it with others.
